Dental cleanings versus periodontal cleanings in Gravesend

Gravesend teeth cleaning
What is the difference between dental cleanings (teeth cleanings) and periodontal cleanings? Both are designed to remove plaque and tartar, the bacterial substances that are responsible for both tooth decay and gum disease. However, periodontal cleanings do more deeply than dental cleanings, typically as a response to advanced gum disease. Here at Bay Parkway Dental Associates, we’re committed to your optimal oral well-being, and a big part of that is having you come in two times per year for our Gravesend teeth cleaning.
The first stage of gum disease is known as gingivitis. Symptoms of it include redness of the gums and some irritation. It’s usually mild. When you come in for your six month visit, our dentist will do a thorough check up and take x-rays in order to detect any cavities. Gum disease is easier to find, and can generally be done with a simple visual inspection. While you’re here, you will have our Gravesend teeth cleaning, which has two major benefits. First, it succeeds in the complete elimination of plaque and tartar from your teeth and gums, which makes it more likely that you can avoid future cavities and gum disease. But if you are showing indications of gingivitis, you will be pleased to know that the effects will be reversed and the progress of gum disease halted. Although in more stubborn cases, you may need a second cleaning, you can rest assured that your gums will soon return to their natural vibrant and healthy state. If gum disease reaches the advanced stage, though, you will need a periodontal cleaning. It’s more invasive, but efficient in getting at the offending bacteria. It is our goal to keep you from ever needing one, however.
Why not call us right now and set up a time to come in for our Gravesend teeth cleaning?
